Online stores and digital growth for fashion and apparel brands

Many fashion brands in Azerbaijan start on Instagram: photos, stories, orders by direct message. It works until the volume grows — then sizes get mixed up, messages are missed, stock is not tracked and nobody knows which posts actually sell. An online store takes over the routine of selling, while Instagram keeps doing what it does best: showing the product and building the brand.

In short

In short

  1. 01

Size and colour variants with accurate stock per variant are the foundation of a fashion store.

  2. 02

Fit information — size charts, measurements, model's size — reduces returns more than anything else.

  3. 03

Returns and exchanges need a clear policy and an easy process; they are part of buying clothes online.

  4. 04

Instagram and TikTok drive discovery; the store should be built for visitors coming from a post or a story.

  5. 05

Repeat customers are the most profitable; new collection alerts and personal offers bring them back.

Overview

Product pages that sell clothes

  • Several high-quality photos per colour, on a model and flat, with close-ups of fabric and details. Short video if possible.
  • Size selection with stock per size and colour; unavailable sizes shown as such, with an option to be notified.
  • Size chart with measurements in centimetres, the model's height and size, and fit notes ("runs small", "relaxed fit").
  • Fabric composition and care instructions.
  • Delivery cost and time, and the returns policy, visible before checkout.

The general checklist is in product page checklist.

From Instagram to the store

  • The link in bio leads to a page for Instagram visitors: new arrivals, bestsellers, the current campaign.
  • Product tags in posts and stories lead directly to product pages where Instagram Shopping features are available to your account.
  • Direct messages are still answered — many customers ask about size or fit before ordering — with quick replies and a link to the product.

See from Instagram to website.

Checkout, payment and delivery

A short checkout that works on a phone, card payment through a local provider, cash on delivery where customers expect it, and delivery options with clear costs. See checkout optimisation and cash on delivery in Azerbaijan.

Returns and exchanges

A written policy for returns and exchanges — terms, condition of items, who pays delivery — is required by customers' expectations and consumer protection rules. The process should be simple: a request in the customer's account or by message, a courier or a drop-off point, and a refund or exchange tracked in the system.

Stock and collections

Fashion stock is organised by collection and season, with many variants per product. The store should sync with the accounting system per variant and handle pre-orders for new collections where needed. See inventory sync.

Platform choice

Ready platforms such as Shopify offer good templates for fashion, but payment options for businesses in Azerbaijan are limited on some of them, and deep integration with local systems can be difficult. A custom store gives full control over payment, delivery and 1C integration. The comparison is in Shopify vs custom store.

Marketing

Meta ads with catalog-based dynamic ads, remarketing to visitors who viewed products, and influencer collaborations where they fit the brand. Tracking must follow the customer from the ad to the purchase, including purchases completed through direct messages. See Meta ads management.

What to measure

  • Conversion rate by traffic source, especially Instagram.
  • Return rate by product and by size — a signal for size chart corrections.
  • Repeat purchase rate and time between purchases.
  • Sell-through by collection.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can we keep selling through Instagram DMs after launching the store?

Yes. Many customers still prefer to ask first. The difference is that orders from DMs are entered into the same system, so stock and customer history stay accurate.

How do we reduce returns?

Better size information, real photos and honest fit notes. Tracking returns by product and size shows where the information is failing.

Should we sell on marketplaces too?

It can extend reach. Keep the full collection and brand experience on your own store, where you own the customer relationship.
