Product page checklist for online stores

The product page is where the buying decision is made. A customer who reached it is interested; what they need now is certainty — about the product, the price, delivery and what happens if something goes wrong. Each missing answer sends them to another tab, a messenger chat or a competitor. Use this checklist when designing product templates or reviewing existing ones.

Guide

Above the fold

  • Product name as customers would search for it.
  • Main photo and gallery.
  • Price in manats, including any discount and what it applies to.
  • Variant selection — size, colour, configuration — with availability per variant.
  • Stock status: in stock, low stock, available to order with an estimated date.
  • Add to cart and, where relevant, a quick contact option such as WhatsApp.
  • Delivery estimate for the customer's area.

Photos and video

  • Several angles, close-ups of materials and details, the product in use or in context.
  • Consistent backgrounds and lighting across the catalog.
  • Scale reference for size-sensitive products.
  • Short video for products where movement, texture or function matters.
  • Optimised images that load fast on mobile. See image optimisation.

Information

  • Description: what the product is for, who it suits, key benefits — written for customers, not copied from the manufacturer.
  • Specifications: a table of attributes — dimensions, materials, compatibility, power, warranty.
  • Size guide for clothing, shoes, rings and similar.
  • What is in the box.
  • Care, installation or usage instructions where relevant.
  • Warranty terms and who provides service.

Delivery, payment and returns

  • Delivery options, costs and times, ideally calculated for the customer's location.
  • Payment methods: card online, on delivery, instalments if offered.
  • Returns and exchange policy summarised, with a link to full terms.

Customers in Azerbaijan often want to know whether they can pay on delivery; say so clearly if you offer it. See cash on delivery.

Trust

  • Reviews and ratings from verified buyers; respond to critical ones.
  • Customer questions and answers.
  • Seller information and contacts.
  • Secure payment indications — without fake badges.
  • Alternatives for customers still deciding.
  • Accessories and complementary items.
  • "Frequently bought together" where data supports it.

Search and structured data

  • Unique title tag and meta description per product and language.
  • Product structured data with name, image, price, currency (AZN), availability and reviews where genuine. See structured data for business websites.
  • Canonical URL for products with variants or listed in several categories.

Mobile

Most shoppers browse on phones. Keep the price, variant selection and add-to-cart button easy to reach; collapse long specifications into sections; make the gallery swipeable.

Analytics

Track views, variant selections, add-to-cart and purchases per product. Products with many views and few add-to-carts need attention — usually price, photos or missing information.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Should we show out-of-stock variants?

Yes, marked as unavailable with an option to be notified. Hiding them can confuse customers looking for a specific size.

How long should product descriptions be?

Long enough to answer customers' questions. For simple products that may be a short paragraph and a specification table; for complex or expensive ones, much more.

Can we use the manufacturer's description?

As a source of specifications, yes. Copying the full description word for word gives you the same text as every other store; writing your own helps customers and search visibility.
