Delivery for online stores in Azerbaijan: options and setup
Delivery is where an online store's promise meets reality. Customers remember whether the courier came on time and called ahead far longer than they remember the website's design. In Azerbaijan, stores combine several delivery options — their own couriers in Baku, courier companies, the national postal service and pickup — and the website has to present them clearly and pass the right information to whoever delivers.

In short
In short
- 01
Most stores combine: own or contracted couriers for Baku and nearby cities, other options for the regions, and pickup.
- 02
Delivery zones, costs and times must be clear before checkout and calculated automatically.
- 03
Address entry should fit local practice: district, landmarks, entrance, floor, a map pin and a comment.
- 04
Payment on delivery is common; couriers need a way to accept cash and cards and to report payments.
- 05
Tracking and proactive messages reduce calls and failed deliveries.

Delivery options
Own couriers
Common for stores with steady volume in Baku. Gives control over service and speed, and allows cash collection. Requires route planning, courier management and a courier app or at least a clear daily list.
Courier companies
Local courier services handle city and intercity delivery. Integration depends on the company: some provide APIs for creating shipments and tracking, others work through their own dashboards. Compare coverage, prices, cash handling and how returns are managed.
Postal service
Azərpoçt, the national postal operator, reaches the regions and can suit non-urgent, lower-value shipments. Check current services and tracking options.
Pickup
From your store or warehouse, or from pickup points where available. Pickup reduces cost and failed deliveries, and brings customers to physical stores. Large marketplaces operate their own networks of pickup points for their customers.
Delivery platforms
For food, groceries and some retail, delivery platforms such as Wolt handle last-mile delivery for their own orders. See grocery and food delivery.
Zones, prices and times
- Define zones: central Baku, other districts, Absheron, other cities, regions.
- Set prices and minimum orders per zone, and free delivery thresholds if you offer them.
- Show realistic delivery times — same day, next day, a number of business days — and cut-off times for orders.
- Calculate cost in the cart and checkout automatically from the address or selected zone.
Addresses
Addresses in Azerbaijan often need more than a street and number: residential complex names, landmarks, entrances and floors matter to couriers. Good checkout forms ask for:
- city and district;
- street, building, entrance, floor, apartment;
- a landmark or comment field;
- a map pin, where possible;
- a contact phone that the courier can call.
Payment on delivery
Couriers collecting cash or card payments need a way to record payment and hand over receipts, and the store needs daily reconciliation of collected payments. Receipts for consumer sales must follow the cash register rules that apply to your business — agree the setup with your accountant. See cash on delivery in Azerbaijan.
Tracking and communication
- Order status updates by messenger or SMS: confirmed, handed to courier, out for delivery.
- A courier call or message before arrival.
- A tracking link where the courier company provides one.
- Easy rescheduling if the customer is not available.
Proactive communication reduces "where is my order?" calls and failed deliveries.
Returns
Explain how returns are collected or dropped off, who pays for return delivery and how refunds are made. The system should record returns and update stock.
Integration
The store should create shipments with courier companies automatically where APIs exist, receive tracking updates, and pass delivery data to accounting. Where no API exists, a daily export in the courier's format saves manual entry. See API integrations.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Should we offer free delivery?
Free delivery above a threshold encourages larger orders and reduces checkout abandonment. Calculate the threshold from your margins and delivery costs.
How do we handle deliveries to the regions?
Through courier companies or the postal service covering those areas, with longer delivery times stated clearly and, sometimes, prepayment required.
Can customers choose a delivery time?
If your couriers can plan routes by time windows, yes. Offer realistic windows you can keep rather than exact times you cannot.
