24/7 monitoring for websites and business systems

The worst way to learn that your website is down is from a customer — or from a drop in sales a week later. Monitoring checks your systems continuously and alerts a person the moment something breaks: the site stops responding, a certificate is about to expire, orders stop arriving, a backup fails, or someone is trying thousands of passwords on the admin panel.

In short

In short

  1. 01

Monitoring covers availability, performance, errors, business processes and security signals — not just "is the home page up".

  2. 02

Alerts go to a specific person by a channel they will see at night, with enough context to act.

  3. 03

Thresholds are tuned so that alerts are rare and meaningful; a monitoring system that cries wolf gets ignored.

  4. 04

Some checks prevent incidents rather than detect them: certificate and domain expiry, disk space, failed backups.

  5. 05

What happens after an alert is agreed in advance: who responds, how fast, and what they may do.

Scope

What we monitor

Availability and performance

  • Key pages and APIs checked from outside every minute or few minutes.
  • Response time trends, to catch slow degradation before it becomes an outage.
  • Server resources: CPU, memory, disk space, database connections.

Errors

  • Application errors and their frequency, grouped so that a new type of error stands out.
  • Failed payments, failed integrations, failed scheduled jobs.

Business processes

These are the checks that catch the most expensive silent failures:

  • Enquiry forms actually deliver: a test submission reaches the CRM or inbox.
  • Orders keep arriving at a normal rate during business hours.
  • Integrations with 1C, the CRM or delivery services complete successfully.
  • Email delivery from the site works.

Expiry dates

  • SSL certificates, domain registrations and API tokens, with alerts weeks before expiry.

Security signals

  • Spikes in login failures or requests to admin paths.
  • Changes to files that should not change.
  • Unusual traffic patterns that may be the start of an attack. See DDoS protection.

Backups

  • Each backup job reports its result; missing or suspiciously small backups trigger an alert. See backups and recovery.

Alerts that people act on

  • Severity levels: critical alerts (site down, payments failing) wake someone up; warnings (disk at 80%) wait for business hours.
  • The right channel: Telegram or another messenger, SMS or phone calls for critical issues, email for reports.
  • Deduplication: one alert per incident, not hundreds.
  • Context: what failed, since when, and a link to the relevant logs.

Response

Monitoring is useful only if someone acts. We agree on response times by severity, who is on call, what they are allowed to do (restart a service, roll back a release, switch on stricter protection) and when they escalate. These terms are often written into a service level agreement, and incident steps are described in an incident playbook.

Reporting

A monthly summary shows availability, incidents and their causes, response times and recommendations — for example, recurring errors that should be fixed in the code.

What we need from you

  • The list of systems and business processes that matter most.
  • Who should be alerted, by which channel, and at what hours.
  • Access to servers, hosting, the application and integrations.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is uptime monitoring from a free service enough?

It is a good start for availability. It will not tell you that the form stopped delivering, that a backup failed or that integrations are broken — those need checks inside your systems.

Who responds at night?

That is agreed per system. For some businesses, a critical alert at night must be handled within minutes; for others, it can wait until morning. The monitoring setup follows that decision.

Can monitoring prevent attacks?

Not by itself, but it shortens the time between the start of an attack and the response, which often determines how much damage is done.
